I did another workshop (this was my third workshop) – the topic this time was
‘Sexuality in Sci-fi’. I talked about my sci-fi books, one of which (Bounty
Hunters’ Captive) included a weightless sex scene. My research to find an
astronaut who had had sex in space proved fruitless, so I had to consider the
physics, eg, needing to be braced, seasickness, fluids floating, boobs and cock not dropping
to the floor with gravity, etc!
Here's me in action showing the book covers for the two in the Duoterra series.
We looked at the history of sex in sci-fi (despite some very suggestive covers, little was explicit before the late 60s, although there were a few brave writers before that), then considered modern depictions and how sci-fi is a great medium for erotica where any type of pairing is acceptable, locations are immensely varied from spaceships to strange and futuristic worlds, and exciting objects can be used in sex play.
This finished with a
sci-fi cluedo exercise where everyone had to pick out three words/phrases from
an envelope – one was a type of being, one a location and one an object. So you
could have Miss Scarlet on Vulcan with a sonic screwdriver. Participants were
then asked to come up with innovative ideas for sex scenes based on those
words. So Miss Scarlet could be married to a Vulcan, who, as we all know from
Star Trek, only has sex once every seven years, and she is DESPERATE for sex!
So she uses her sonic screwdriver for a great masturbator!
The scenarios people
came up with were fabulous! Ideas ranged from - space stations
with invisible creatures who feed off sexual energy.... Masochists who find a
damaged vessel containing a chair that gives orgasm or punishment.... An
ethereal spirit guarding a ruined temple who become a host to an sex crazed
alien ... amongst other terrific ideas.
Thanks to everyone for taking part. Following on from this I then announced a submission call for a new anthology called ‘Love and Lust in Space’ and challenged everyone to write up their story ideas – see Monday’s blog post.

Other workshops included
one from Anna Sky of Sexy Little Pages (the publisher for the new anthology) on
self-publishing with some great hints and tips.
One from Janine Ashbless
on writing fantasy erotica and focussed us on where to find inspiration or how
to turn centuries-old stories into new ones. And she even dressed up for her session!
Then Dr Scribbly gave a
session where we watched a performance by his partner, the lovely Bea Noir, then had a certain amount of time to
write something (poem, story, whatever) about that performance! And I even won a prize for
best piece of writing! Photo and what I wrote is going on a blog post next week!
In addition, we had the usual great readings from a variety of authors (including yours truly reading from Alien Manhunt, fitting in with my sci-fi theme). The hostess, Victoria Blisse, gives readers a max of 5 mins to read their piece or they get the paddle. Since she was reading as well, I took a turn to be the timekeeper. I wonder which of us is enjoying it more!!
There were the usual
wonderful erotic tombola, fabulous freebies, great refreshments.
