Inspirational Mondays - Monthly Author Interview

My inspirational author this month is Michelle Graham whose book (Landing the Big Ones) went storming up the bestseller lists despite it being her first book! So well done, Michelle! Here’s what she says:

I’m 37 years old, happily married for 13 years with two adorable kids. I love to read, and before I got serious about writing, it was not unusual to find me with a book in my hands during my spare time. I’ve always wanted to write, and I was totally thrilled when my first book was accepted by Siren. I’ve been writing since then! So now you’re more likely to find me with a notebook and pen in hand. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada, have an Evil Day Job, and I enjoy good coffee, good wine, and good chocolate!

Tell us about your latest book.

My upcoming book, The Art of Love, is about a woman who is opening her own art gallery. It’s the second in my Hedon Falls series. The main character, Melanie, decides that the theme of her opening exhibit will be erotic art and her search for works to feature leads her into the arms of three fabulous artists. She wants to have a ménage relationship since she can’t decide between them, but first, she has to convince the guys to try sharing.
(Hmm - looking forward to reading it!)

Do you have anything in common with your characters?

I find a bit of myself in most of my characters, the women especially. In Landing the Big Ones, Serena’s interactions with her son are much like those I have with mine. In The Art of Love, Melanie’s impulsiveness is very much me! My most recently submitted story is called Housekeeping, and my main character, Sophie, is very curious like me.
(I agree with Michelle - a lot of me is in my heroines)

Is there any trivia about your latest/forthcoming story that you can share with us (eg, the name of a real life pet that you used in the story)?

Justin, one of the artists in The Art of Love, specializes in a type of artwork similar to one of my favourite contemporary artists. You can find examples of his work at www.benheine.com

Who are some of your favorite authors?

My ‘big 3’ are Kelley Armstrong, Kim Harrison, and Laurell K. Hamilton. But I also enjoy reading a variety of erotic romance authors. There are so many good ones that I’d hate to pick a favourite!

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

That would be the erotic romance! ;)

What are you currently working on, or what’s on the horizon?

I’m shortly to submit my third book in the Hedon Falls series to Siren so I’m hoping that will be accepted. I’ve started work on another series. This time I’m venturing into the world of the paranormal. We’ll see how that goes!
(Good Luck!)

What do you do when you’re not writing?

The day job and my family take up a lot of my time. Most of the rest is spent writing and sleeping! Although you may also find me lost in a sea of social media or with my nose buried in a book.

Who did you dedicate your first book to?

Landing the Big Ones was dedicated to Sam, a young boy I knew who was killed last year. It had a huge impact on my life and I found myself thinking about him a lot as I wrote, so I named my heroine’s son after him.
(That is so touching!)

How can your fans find you on the internet?

Many thanks, Michelle. It has been great talking to you. My inspirational author next month is Jan Bowles.
