Writing Gay Short Stories

Yay! My gay short story Alien Manhunt was accepted by Evernight Publishing J

It is rather exciting since this is my first short story (and there is quite an art to writing short stories). One must avoid the desire to squash the whole of a novel into a short story. So rather than tell the journey of a relationship from meeting, to first date, first sex scene, first argument, etc etc, you could either take a scene from an established relationship or the start of a relationship and show how they met, or maybe the resolution of a conflict.

You will have to wait and read mine to find out which one of those I went with!

But this is also my first totally gay story. I did do The Last Werewolf with Susan Laine, which was an MMF story, but Susan did all the gay sex scenes! Of course, I had to go full out and do MMM!! No half measures with me.

Expect it out in July.

Gay stories... short stories

Gay stories….short stories...

I bet you never thought you would see me writing either! The closest I have written is an MMF book The Last Werewolf, but the male sex scenes were written by my co-author on that book, Susan Laine.

And short stories is not something I am comfortable writing – the novella is my preferred writing length. Most of my own stories (not co-written) are novellas (20-30,000 words) with just a few in the mid 30,000s.

So why am I now writing a gay short story? Particularly considering my last experience when I submitted one to an anthology it was rejected? Actually, in that case, lots of authors who were experienced gay story writers also had theirs rejected, so I don’t feel too bad about that.

Nope, it came about last week when I woke up dreaming up a story idea for a gay short story. It was so good (at least I think so!!) that I have had to write it up. There is one thing to be said about doing short stories – they get written quicker! I am nearly finished already.

What can I tell you about it? It is MMM (I am not going into the gay writing business with any hesitation! But don’t expect any more any time soon. This is a one off.). It’s a sci-fi. The heroes are one human, and two aliens. It is a forced seduction story….. with a twist!

Ah ha! Can’t tell you any more or it will give it away, except there is some BDSM in it.

If it's Monday it must be Holland...

As you know from previous posts it was my birthday recently – and I treated myself to a mini-cruise of Holland, Belgium and France!

It was terrific and a wonderful way to spend my birthday. They brought out a cake and lit candle and gave me a souvenir copy of the menu for that evening made to look like a birthday card.

My first port of call was Amsterdam which was prettier than I expected.

There was a great story from the guide about the red light district who said she was staying over with a friend one snowy Saturday night and when she looked out of the window the next morning there were lots of dogs. When she queried where the dogs came from her friends said, “It’s Sunday!” The guide was still mystified so the friend explained that the wives go to church on Sunday so the husbands walk their dogs………

 

This is me below next to a windmill just to prove I visited Holland!!

The next day we had an excursion to the beautiful medieval city of Bruges. No funny stories, but it was stunning.

The last day we took a coach journey from the ship to Monet’s House where the gardens were a RIOT of colour.

I grabbed people as I wandered asking if they spoke English. When they shook their heads I just thrust my camera in their hands, pointed to the biggest button to press and went and posed!
